Oculus said that the goal of the project is to provide a lab bench to better understand the computational needs of such a system and the accuracy of the hardware. “What makes us wonder is how, after decades of research by visual scientists, how the eye-focusing system works and what stimuli to use to optimize focus are still not well explained. "MacKenzie said. “The most exciting part of this system in the build process is that we can answer a lot of questions raised in the experiments – these problems can only be solved by a combination of this level of stimulus presentation and eye movement measurement.”

The Oculus team also said that their display solutions are compatible with existing GPU tools, achieving "three orders of magnitude improvement over previous work efficiency." The team said that this will help to create a practical eye tracking, while pushing the rendering requirements of multi-focus display technology to continue to rise.
